Those from my generation will remember Tron, one of the first big production films to really explore the use of CGI. That was of course, in 1982 and both movie making and CGI have come a long, long way.

But no matter how far we travel, there’s always room for another sequel and if you’re a sci-fi fan, then this just might be your day.

First previewed at the Comic-Con, this is Tron Legacy, the sequel to our 1982 classic, set to be released nationwide on December 17, 2010. Jeff Bridges is back in this take two as the missing Kevin Flynn, who’s been living in the digital gladiator world for the last 25 years. His son, Sam Flynn (played by Garrett Hedlund) is a 27-year old tech junkie who decides to look for his long-lost dad. After getting sucked into the same cyber world, he finds his missing father and the two decide its time to make their way across the deadly digital terrain.

• Will Sam ever be free of Maryann? And how do you kill something that’s immortal?
• Is the God Who Comes actually going to show?
• Will Jason really start using his brain on a regular basis?
• Will Andy Bellefleur ever get sober? Will he be as entertaining if he does?
• Is Tara really cured or is her demon possession just in remission?
• Will Maxine Fortenberry break Bill’s Wii?
• Will Terry and Arlene stay together after their demons have been exercised? And just out of curiosity, who’s watching Arlene’s kids?
• Can HBO possibly make Eric look any sexier?
• Can Jessica and Hoyt work around the hymen that won’t die?
• When did Lafayette get so.. um.. deliciously macho?
• Will Sookie keep dreaming about Eric?
• Will Eric start dreaming about Sookie?
• What will Bill do when he discovers all this dreaming going on?
• Will Alan Ball stick with the books long enough to give us the shower scene?

And then there’s the question asked most of all:

What the hell am I going to do until 2010?

That’s right… once this season ends, True Blood fans get to wait a whole year before our thirst is once again (temporarily) quenched.

And that got me to thinking: What exactly is this obsession with True Blood?

Well, there’s the obvious entertainment factor – a telepathic waitress finds herself surrounded by a whole host of supernatural beings and the fun ensures. I mean, honestly… who wouldn’t be just a little intrigued?

There’s edge-of-your-seat action, complex oh-no-you-didn’t cliffhangers and yes, some really steamy sex scenes that keep your toes perpetually curled.

From a political standpoint, True Blood (and the Sookie Stackhouse novels on which the series is based) touches on some very deep social issues that actually plague our real-life society.

Vampires don’t have rights and once they came out of the coffin, self-righteous groups everywhere (most notably the Fellowship of the Sun) were happy to demonstrate just how bigoted and small-minded some of us truly are.

Of course, we don’t have vamps walking around among us (at least not yet) but we have seen similar behavior emerge in response to issues on race and sexual preference. I mean, if we can’t even figure out tolerance among humans, how bad do you think we’d be if the undead decided to announce their presence? Personally, I think the Newlins and their Fellowship of the Sun is a pretty conservative representation.

And then there’s the “better you than me” factor. In the True Blood universe, there are all sorts of supernatural creatures coming out of the woodwork… creatures who can control your mind and suck your blood.

Kind of makes solving the public healthcare issue look like a walk in the park, doesn’t it?

But if you ask me – and I know you were planning to – this obsession with True Blood runs much, much deeper. In fact, I think the real draw of True Blood is a very personal one, indeed.

For starters, Sookie Stackhouse is a seemingly average waitress who just happens to be telepathic – an ability that ensured she’d never quite “fit in” and that’s a feeling that is much more common than many would like to admit.

So, how fitting is it then that the “weird chick” turns out to be the courageous and sexy heroine, and with some pretty nifty magical powers to boot? C’mon admit it… it would be great to discover we have some sort of magical ability or super power and if you say you haven’t fantasized about the possibility, well then you’re just not embracing your inner freak: we’d all like to be “something more” than we think we are.

Which brings me to what I think is the real attraction of True Blood – the idea that there really was something “more” out there… Wouldn’t it be cool if our world wasn’t quite as predictable as we’ve all made it out to be. We’ve grown up with the myths and tales of things lurking in the shadows and while our grown up minds tell us that those stories are just that – stories – we still hang on to the idea that magic and the supernatural might exist. And we do so because we find the possibilities intriguing.

Because in that world, life isn’t just about paying your bills and going to work. It’s about adventure, excitement and certainly the unknown. And perhaps that’s what we’re all really seeking… maybe that’s the real draw of True Blood…

Maybe we’re just looking for a way to spice things up… and what could be spicier than some fangs?

Which means my cleverness will go unseen… my tweet will go unread and worst of all…I have no excuse not to work… aack!

Sookie's Erotic Dream

We’ve watched Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Bill’s (Stephen Moyer) romance blossom into something deeper and stronger… it even has hints of a normal, human relationship more often than not with the exception of Bill’s fangs in the bedroom… but hey, who am I to turn my nose up at a little kink? You never know until you try it

We’ve seen Sam (Sam Trammell) spread his wings in the shapeshifting department (pun definitely intended) as he runs for his life from a freaky maenad lady named Maryann (Michelle Forbes) who has an unusual taste for live sacrifices and we’ve watched Tara (Rutina Wesley) finally hook up with a guy who can make her toes curl only to discover that the happiness of her libido comes with a steep price.

We’ve watched Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) transform from a sex-brokering V-dealer to a strong, protective member of the Bon Temps community and dare I say it? The man is looking more macho all the time, fingernail polish and all. Even Jason (Ryan Kwanten) seems to be stepping up to the plate, his lovable but usually dimwitted character seems to be growing into something well… admirable. Don’t worry, it hasn’t cost him any sex appeal.

And then we saw episode nine. And oh, what an episode it was… Lafayette kicking butt, Jason coming to his senses and of course, Sookie’s deliciously erotic dream of what romance with a vamp would be like if that vamp’s name was Eric… I won’t tell you how many times I’ve rewinded that scene but my oh my! That man can bite me any day of the week!

Yes, I’m a big fan of the Bill/Sookie romance and I’ll be the first to admit that the sex scenes between these two have been more than enough to leave me feeling… well… frisky. But this latest Eric encounter? Geez louise… I’m blushing just thinking about it.

We also watched Godric “meet the sun” after a brief and gut-wrenching dialogue with a not-as-cold-and-calculating-as-we-thought Eric. He’s definitely still a badass, but wow… when the badass is upset, you can’t help but feel his pain. On a sidenote, did anyone else cry at that scene? Between Allan Hyde’s loving resignation to his fate and Alexander Skarsgard’s heartbreaking emotional breakdown, I lose it every time I watch.

So, what’s next?

With only three episodes left, how in the world will Alan Ball top episode 9?

Well, let’s see…

• TVGuide.com reports that fans can expect to see the death of not one but TWO “prominent” vampires before the end of the season. Obviously, Godric was one but who’s the other? Stan? Not likely since his death was barely even mentioned. We know they won’t do in Bill or Eric (don’t even think about it Mr. Ball) so who’s left?

  Jessica would be one option, perhaps even having Hoyt stake her because she’s attacking his mother, a storyline that would definitely be a twist but would suck – I like who Jessica’s character has become and its about time that Hoyt has some female companionship other than his overbearing mother.

  The other option would be Lorena, Bill’s maker and that would work with the storyline too but without giving anything away from the books, that might be a bit … um… premature???

• As for other storylines, we know that Queen Sophie-Anne (Evan Rachel Wood) will be making an appearance in Ep 11 and BuddyTV.com reports that Sookie’s cousin Hadley (played by rocker Lindsey Haun) will be joining the cast as well.
• Bill doesn’t know how to kill Maryann (according to the HBO promo vid) but Jason seems to think that a chainsaw can do the trick.

In an interview with Pop Wrap, Rutina Wesley tells us that there’s more to Maryann’s character than we know and that Tara will fall deeper under Maryann’s spell before things get better. Oh, and one other little piece of info – she says that “the season ends with a bigger cliffhanger than last season”… is that even possible?

And then to listen to the genius Mr. Ball himself: “A lot of the story line is original but we do try to make sure that it stays true to the spirit of the book. We start each season with a book and we go and say that these are the great moments that we want to hang onto. And then we spread it out over 12 episodes and we fill in the blanks of the other characters.”

So what do you think? What’s next on the horizon for True Blood? And how do you think Alan Ball will finish up Season 2?

The couple has been dating since the beginning of the HBO series (2008). Paquin, 27, is most known (other than as Sookie, of course) for her role as Rogue in the blockbuster movie, X-Men although she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the age of 11 for her role as Flora in The Piano.

Moyer, 39, is an English actor with a long list of acting credits including Restraint, 88 Minutes and numerous television appearances.

The news was confirmed by Moyer’s agent to TVGuide.com but no details were released and no word on a date.

Hmmm… does that mean i can have Eric Northman all to myself then?
